Our client has a unique opportunity for an experienced Livestock Farm Manager to take charge of the all aspects of running a large-scale Merino sheep breeding enterprise and other livestock. 

This position requires an energetic person capable of delivering on performance goals whilst ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the station. The position requires as a prerequisite the skills needed to support growth of the farm business; delivery of farm system improvements; as well as have a strong hands-on people leadership skill. You will be action-oriented but also committed to working cohesively and collaboratively to achieve the owner’s productivity and profit orientated results.

Located in Central Victoria within 20 kilometres of a large regional city, the property is 2,000 Hectares in size. It is currently running an 8,000 ewe merino sheep enterprise, with potential for development of a ram breeding flock. An additional small cattle breeding enterprise is also currently active on-site. Your key responsibilities will be to manage the breeding programs and animal husbandry requirements of the flock and other livestock, whilst ensuring the highest level of animal welfare and environmental protection.

Your role will also include management of all pasture maintenance, pasture improvement/renovation programs and other cropping activities. This role requires you to keep up to date stock movements and monthly reporting, including flock, paddock, chemical register, plant and equipment inventory, financial records and infrastructure maintenance schedules.

Skills and Experience:

  • A high degree of competency in all areas of management, operations and organisation of a livestock property.
  • Possess the highest level of animal welfare standards
  • LTEM course and understanding of ASBV an advantage
  • Merino sheep and wool classing knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of High rainfall zones
  • Strategic pasture improvement and renovation experience essential
  • Cropping experience
  • The ability to manage and develop staff
  • Understanding of OH&S requirements
  • Conduct a collegiate relationship with stakeholders
  • The ability to draft, write and submit budgets and operation programs

Remuneration:

An attractive package inclusive of a comfortable family home, plus other benefits on offer for the right skills and experience

Salary: $90k-$110k plus super
