Job Purpose

The Head of People and Culture plays a key leadership role in partnering with the CEO and Board, providing strategic advice on building and leveraging a culture of performance and accountability. The role will be responsible for leading strategic HR direction and delivery of HR services across the company, implementing recruitment and retention strategies, managing organisational development, ensuring compliance with Workplace Health and Safety laws and regulations, striving for excellence and best practice, and promoting an organisational culture that is aligned with the company’s strategy and vision. The Head of People and Culture will be a key member of the leadership team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overall management of the HR operations including recruitment and retention, training, performance review, promotion and disciplinary actions, and organisation culture;
  • Develop, execute and optimise people strategy and recruitment plan;
  • Build and implement all HR and workplace related policies and procedures;
  • Partner with Executive Management Committee members, people managers and other internal stakeholders to advise and assist in best practice and legal compliance;
  • Periodically report to the Board and EMC in relation to the effectiveness of HR operations;
  • Manage the recruitment process including conducting interviews, assessing job applications, salary and benefits negotiations, reference checking and the on-boarding process;
  • Proactively reach out and attract talents with professional profile that is aligned with the company’s growth plan;
  • Collaborate with department heads to produce and implement a performance evaluation system;
  • Managing OH&S including employee wellness, safety, health and performance reviews;
  • Identify and support all training needs in different roles. Establishing and optimising the training scheme to promote employee motivation and capability;
  • Conduct research and negotiation to optimise the remuneration structure, ensuring the remuneration structure remains competitive, fair and compliant with all legal requirements;
  • Maintain and improve an organisational culture that encourages innovation, customer focused responsiveness to national and regional stakeholder needs and integrity and trust.
  • Manage all employment contracts, prevent and resolve any employment disputes and deal with any law-enforcement bodies such as Fair Work Ombudsman;
  • Carry out regular consultation with each employee to promote job security and motivation;
  • Protect company brands and reputation through public opinions and legal system;
  • Support and facilitate organisational changes from time to time;
  • Assist Executive Management Team on any reasonable ad-hoc duties.

Required Qualifications and Experiences

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources Management or related disciplines;
  • 5+ years of recent experience as a senior HR manager in either a large organisation or a fast-paced start-up;
  • Strong cultural awareness, and experience in dealing with international staff is a plus;
  • Good understanding of Australian workplace legislations and international best practice;
  • Experience of operating at a strategic level;
  • Experience of managing complex organisational change and development;
  • Experience of developing plans and managing budget;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels;
  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Ability to speak and write in Mandarin is a plus;
  • Ability to manage and motivate team, develop people and promote corporate culture and values;
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Highly organised, friendly and approachable;
  • Ability to both work independently and in a team context;
  • Experience in reporting and presenting to Board is a plus;
  • Banking or financial service background is a plus.

Work Conditions

This a full-time permanent role and can be based in either the company’s Sydney or Melbourne Office. Normal working hours is Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 6 pm. Flexible working arrangement may be available depending on the individual situation, subject to the approval by management on a case by case basis.

Other Requirements

This role is required to oversee the HR function of both the Melbourne and Sydney office, and cover certain HR functions for a related company in the same group. Travel may be required from time to time between Sydney and Melbourne.
